Ashes to Ashes was a group exhibition presented at Asylum Chapel, London, from 15 to 19 December 2025. Set within the atmospheric architecture of the former chapel, the exhibition explored mortality, desire, impermanence, and the human impulse to create meaning in the face of loss and decay.
Taking its title from the burial phrase “ashes to ashes, dust to dust,” the project considered art as a form of quiet resistance against disappearance. Through works by Ana Ionescu, Anais Öst, Chen Weirui, Chen Xinxing, Jason Kwong, Ji Chai, Li Shuangqiang, Luo Guangyi, Lyu Ruofei, Shavonne Yang, William Lowry, Yang Yang, and Zhao Yuchu, the exhibition brought together practices that move between vulnerability and structure, ruin and renewal, confession and form.
Within the weathered setting of Asylum Chapel, Ashes to Ashes approached the exhibition space as both metaphor and refuge: a place where memory, imagination, and creation could briefly shelter against the certainty of impermanence.
