THE DREAM HAS ME
Sammi Mak Solo Exhibition
SWANFALL Gallery, London, UK
1 July – 2 August 2024
Curator · Solo Exhibition

The Dream Has Me was a solo exhibition by Wing Sum Sammi Mak, presented at SWANFALL GALLERY, London. Born in Hong Kong in 1996 and currently based in London, Mak works through painting as a language of emotion, desire, memory, and embodied experience. Her practice draws from the radical beauty of nature, Anne Carson’s writings on longing, and Hélène Cixous’s reflections on the female body, creating open and fluid pictorial spaces that move between abstraction, sensation, and imagination.
Taking its title from a dreamlike reversal of agency, the exhibition presented Mak’s recent paintings as spaces where reality and fantasy become unstable. Through colour, gesture, and layered forms, The Dream Has Me explored dreams not as escape, but as a field of self-discovery, vulnerability, and transformation, inviting viewers into a visual world shaped by romance, disorientation, and emotional intensity.
